FPV channels at 5.8 GHz: table, law and video link
Analogue and digital FPV video transmitters mostly work around 5.8 GHz. Not every channel is licence-exempt. Signal-Pirat shows the usual channel tables with the legal status per channel, helps choose channels for groups and calculates the video link.

What the page does
- Raceband (R) and bands A, B, E, F with eight channels each
- Licence-exempt in 5725–5875 MHz at most 25 mW EIRP
- Channels outside and higher power only with an amateur licence in the amateur band
- Smallest channel spacing in the group; Raceband on a 37 MHz grid
- Video link with EIRP, free-space loss, margin and Fresnel zone
Background
According to CEPT Recommendation ERC 70-03, the licence-exempt range for non-specific short range devices around 5.8 GHz is 5725 to 5875 MHz at most 25 mW EIRP; in Austria the frequency usage ordinance in force applies. Several Raceband channels such as R1, R2, R7 and R8 lie outside this range. Flight operations are also subject to drone law under EU Implementing Regulation 2019/947 with registration via Austro Control.
In practice
How it works: view the channel table, choose one channel per pilot and check the smallest spacing. For the video link enter transmit power, antenna gains, sensitivity and distance; above 25 mW EIRP a warning appears.
Frequently asked questions
Which Raceband channels are licence-exempt?
R3 to R6 lie within 5725–5875 MHz; R1, R2, R7 and R8 lie outside.
May I transmit with more than 25 mW?
Only with an amateur radio licence and only in the amateur band under its conditions.
